Should I introduce Patti Labelle, this Funk/R&B diva who is celebrating its 60 years old this year ? Well, I do it quickly for the youngers lol. She was 17 when she hooked up with friends as "The Blue Belles", becoming soon after "Patti Labelle and the Blue Belles". The group knew it's first hit en 1962, and they then matched few small hits during the 1960'. Then in 1967, one of the member left to join the Supremes. The remaining trio adopted a new sound, a new image, and so a new name : In 1971 they made their come-back under the name of "Labelle". 3 years later they released their worldwide multi-platinum and extraordinary hit "Lady Marmalade. But the group split in 1977 and Patti Labelle started a solo career; with smalls hits and big flops. Finally, in 1984, at 40, she gets the success she deserved since lon, and she scored huts after hits : "If You only Knew" (84), "New Attitude" (85), "Stir It Up" (85), "On My Own" (86), "Oh People" (86), "Yo Mister" (89), "Feels Like Another One" (91), "Somebody Loves You Baby" (92), "The Right Kinda Lover" (94), and "When You Talk About Love" (97). In 2000 she made a come-back with a new recording album "When A Woman Loves", an R&B album with 12 tracks from Diane Warren, as a tribute to this successfull songwriter. Patti was recently signed to Def Soul and her new album "Timeless Journey" will hit the stores next May. The first single taken from it "A New Day" has just crash down the Urban AC charts at #29 !
